I arrived at my new club water for only my second 24-hour session, the water is only small and holds some lovely looking old carp, no monsters but some real crackers reside in there, it’s very weedy and the water can be tricky at times.
After having a quick cuppa with my mate who was already set up, I wandered off to find some fish. I soon stumbled upon a few fish and was watching them entering a large Reed bed and spending most of the day tucked up in the comfort of the reeds. I was also clocking the reeds knocking as they move through and out, I noticed they were leaving in a small channel in a Reed bed so I guess that needed further investigation as looked a good place to set a trap.
I managed to locate a small area in between the eel grass weed, near the reed channel after a little leading around, so that’s one spot sorted, I found another gravel spot amongst weed in the corner for the other rod to go on.
Two Rigmarole multi rigs were baited with 12 ml red amo pop-ups and and was dispatched just before sunset to the areas and baited with some Complex t/ Source chopped boilies & some frenzied hemp and corn, all pre soaked in the Tuna & Shrimp extracts from Dynamite baits.
First bite was about 3 a.m. on the reedbed rod and after a quick frantic fight I landed a small double figure common , so quickly returned it and and I put two pouches of chops the 10 yd or so to the spot before recasting a fresh hookbait and returning to bed to try to get some shut eye.
Well I didn’t get a lot of sleep as about 5 am the same rod was away again this time I knew this was a better fish as it flat rodded me and charged up the channel to my right before I managed to slow it down and gradually had it in front of me plodding around before going into the net first time.
I left the fish in the net while I readied the camera gear for some self takes and I was over the moon with a lovely dark old common as a parted the mesh to reveal my first proper original fish from the water. I didn’t bother to recast the rod as I was leaving in the next few hours anyway so decided to wrap up and have a quick catch up with my mate before I hit the road home.
