Second Competition of the Year

Second Competition of the Year

Second Competition of the year and it was back to Cottington Lakes Pepper - Martin and I arrived at 7am sharp as the shop opened for business.

To our surprise at the gate Wayne and Paul had slept in the field the night before and were loading the van up ready for a walk around.

We also met Dan (aka Danny Dyer aka Korda Boy) and Mark at the shop. We all had a good walk around the lake, saw a few reeds knocking and some fish showing as we wondered round.

After this I stayed in the shop to meet the rest of the pairs - I greeted all the pairs and told them all they could have a look round ready for the draw, they all obliged.

9:30am
The Draw commenced with Barry and Ben drawing first - The person to draw the number one chip was Ian Spodtastic (sorry Ian) - The pegging went as follows -
Ian and Kevin - Peg 4 (peg 9-10) , Aston - Peg 8 (Bailiffs), Wayne and Paul- Peg 1 (peg 1-2), Martin and Karll - Peg 2 (peg 5 -6), Barry and Ben- Peg 3 (peg 7-, Darren and James - Peg 7 (peg 14), Michael and Lee- Peg 6 (peg 14-13), Dan and Mark - Peg 5 (peg 12/11)

Between 10am and 11:59am was time to setup and mark up ready for action at12:00pm.

First fish fell after 45 minutes to Kevin and Ian in peg 4. Kevin landing thefish and beating his PB with a stunning Mirror Carp weighing at 38lb. (SeePhotos)

The next pair to catch was Wayne and Paul a nice 18.8lb Grass carp which fought as much on the bank as in the water - the match continued to produce and the next didn’t take long to come with Dan and Mark picking up a nice 27.1lb Mirror carp - The day continued like this with fish coming out left right and centre - by the Saturday morning 8 fish had been landed and 4 of which wereover 30lb - Martin and Karll having a 30.10lb Mirror, Aston smashing his PB with a stunning 36lb Mirror carp - Darren and James getting a lovely 33.2lbscale perfect mirror -

After the night it went quite until Dan and Mark had a mega 2 hours stint with catching 3 fish with in this time - 19.9lb, 29.8lb and then Dan hauled himself a new PB of 37.8lb (which is the pic above) so Dan and Mark went miles in the lead by over 70lb - Sitting pretty but after this flurry of fish they found it hard to get another bite drying up for the rest of the day - The lake seemed to slow down and only a few fish came out in the day with Wayne and Paul losing a good fish of the top -

The second night happened and this is were the twist game in - Michael andLee had a storming run of fish with one of these being the new lake record common at 35.10lb stunning silver colored Common Carp. They had a stunning late night session also to over take Dan and Mark by just under 50lb there fish included - 20lb, 11.3lb, 19.10lb, 27.6lb and 28.11lb a stunning run of fish to take the lead into the last morning on Sunday - Morning fell and it was time for the O'Connors to started brining in the runs unfortunately they seemed to find the smaller fish of the competition and found it hard conditions to get a good run going they caught from tight in the reeds, punching small pva bags into the reeds were the carp were holding up - they landed 5 fish in total including13.12lb, 8.8lb, 8.12lb, 7.4lb and 10.7lb the most unlucky run of fish known to Cottingtonlake Pepper.

While all this fun happened Wayne and Paul were slowly catching the leadersafter there grass carp they had picked up a couple of fish 11.9lb and 34.7lb PBfor Paul and a 20.10 Common - It went quite for the night for these guys andthey had to wait till morning for a screamer on Pauls rods and he was in - bythe time i got around there the monster was in the net. This fished weighed inat 36.4lb and put Wayne and Paul only 1 decent fish behind the lead - the last couple of hours was a tense one - unfortunately there was not another fish from these boys and they took the 2nd spot by 8lb.
